Great marketing. Yesterday my buddy Jay Wettach’s firm Zimmerman Kiser & Sutcliffe sponsored their annual 10k and 2k road race in Winter Park, Florida to benefit the Florida Hospital. The race was the grand finale of the ‘Track Shack Series’ which is a series of monthly races put on by local running store Track Shack every year. The series starts in in August and finishes with the Zimmerman race in March, which is a great race with thousands of runners.
Yesterday getting my 11 year old Grant out of bed and ready to leave our house for the race was ugly. With the daylight savings time change it’s dark at 5:30, and as Grant says, “it’s really 4:30 at 5:30.” After much bellyaching from Grant, Marcy my wife and I finally shoehorned him into our car.We parked near where the race started on Park Avenue. Park Avenue is the heart of Winter Park. Brick streets, cool shops, restaurants and bars, with Rollins College at the end of the street. And the Zimmerman firm couldn’t have ordered more perfect weather.
We opted for the 2K. Grant ran his first race last August when the Series began. It was a 5K. We did it together. Even though he had to stop several times to walk he was hooked on running.
Yesterday there was no walking. I couldn’t keep up with him and he beat me soundly. Which he loved.
After the race we got to visit with Jay and saw several of his partners. We also got to see several other old friends, drink coffee with them after the race and had a really great time. Fantastic morning, hard to think a better way to start a Saturday.
Good karma all around. For the community, for the Florida Hospital and for the Zimmerman firm. Great marketing.
